Beef Steak and Potato for Dinner

Posted on Posted in Food

So, I had a really awesome grilled beef steak with potatoes and asparagus for dinner. It is packed with protein and other nutrients that are good for you when having lean meats.

A potato and steak creates a balanced meal with a hearty serving of protein and carbohydrates. However, if you do not choose a lean cut of meat and a healthful cooking method, your meal will be loaded with fat and cholesterol.

When steak is reduced to its correct serving size of 3 oz., the impact of the large amount of saturated fat is reduced dramatically. Choosing lean beef and trimming the excess fat from the steak can also help reduce the fat. Many people are surprised to learn that eating beef, such as steak, also has a number of health benefits. One 3 oz. serving of steak contains 50-percent of the protein that you need for the day. In addition, it is an excellent source of phosphorous, selenium, vitamin B12 and zinc, and a good source of iron, niacin, vitamin B6 and riboflavin.

How do I cook it?

For tender meat, marinate your steak before cooking it. A mixture of lemon juice, minced onion, garlic and Worcestershire sauce works well. Avoid store-bought marinades, which are often high in calories and fat. After marinating, let the steak come to room temperature so that it cooks evenly. The healthiest ways to cook a steak include grilling and pan roasting. When grilling a steak, turn it infrequently to prevent loss of juices. For pan-roasting, sear one side of the steak in an oven-safe skillet, flip it and transfer the skillet to your oven.
